The Most Effective Ad
Sprint Ad
Technology is becoming a large part of our daily life. Everyone is always connected because of the little devices we have in our pockets. During the Super Bowl, there are always commercials aimed toward the viewers to buy the latest technology, or to go with a company who will provide the fastest and most convenient service. In an ad put out by Sprint, all of this was incorporated and more into 1 minute. It not only captured the biased opinion on their phone services, but it also allowed individuals to see how advanced technology is becoming with the use of robots that are considered to be like humans. Throughout the commercial there are rhetorical devices used such as foreshadowing and juxtaposition to convey the message that Sprints plans are so good even robots laugh at other providers. The viewer is able to see the foreshadowing being used throughout the commercial in the robots. They display this when they are making fun of the guy for having Verizon as his provider instead of Sprint. From this moment it becomes known to the viewer that he is probably going to make the switch to Sprint after he keeps getting made fun of by his co-workers. This is a common theme in most phone commercials, so the viewer is able to see exactly what is going to happen.
Juxtaposition is another rhetorical device used throughout the commercial. Of course this is an ad for a company, and the viewer always knows that they have to compare their company to that of another who they are in competition with. In this commercial, Sprint talks about how much pricier Verizon is and how their coverage is not as good as theirs. This juxtaposition not only persuades the viewer to change to Sprint, but it also mentions money which is something most people take highly into consideration when choosing companies.
This commercial is a perfect example of one of the most effective commercials shown during the Super Bowl. Not only did it go well with the audience that was watching because it is a commercial that everyone can relate to, but it provided some humor while also incorporating and showing that even in the future when we have robots, basic non expensive phone plans will still be available.
